Kooragang and former islands

There are 2 very different sides to the Northen end of our map. Walsh Island was once home to the state dockyard and had its own airport. Today you see the visually stunning coal loading facilities, industrial plants such as Orica and BOC and then you find yourself amongst mangrove swamps and natural habitats for wading birds. Weaving between the two are teams of cyclists using the straight long roads for training runs and races.

Orica (v4)72Thank you Kooragang Wetlands for a great Family Festival. I learnt so much about mangroves, farming and gardens and a caught a glimpse of how people lived and worked on the islands. The acacia and macadam nut ice cream was wonderful. I even came home with my own Hexham grey bites.
